Hey guys, your advice please....

Just got some expensive cranks from e-bay that I was going to fit to my MTB but can't fit pedals as the threads are just slightly the wrong size for my egg beaters.

Now to my knowledge there is only a single thread size for pedals but these are road cranks by design so my question is:

Is there a different thread size for roadie pedals? My suspicion is that these cranks are just badly made.

I see long and protracted e-mail correspondence ahead...

Sibex, titanium cranks 175s

Think I may need to geat the threads re-tapped. Is this possible to do when the threads are already very similar or do you just make a mess?

They're defo not BMX cranks

There are 2 sizes of pedal available but the less common size, 1/2" is really only a handful of pedals/cranks for older BMX's, but you will see them on ebay.The eggbeaters will be 9/16". Dumb question but you are putting them on the right sides?

are they older style cranks ?

if yes mayb they were designed for Campagnolo road pedals .

i fitted some old roadie pedals to a mtb crank years ago,they were tight but never chewed the threads up and didnt harm them either when spuds were fitted.i did add loadsa copper grease to which may of helped.hope this helps

I think any reworking of titanium might be a no goer, AFAIK its an extremely difficult material to work with and retapping or helicoiling might be impossible.

Yeah, they're going on the right sides, just only threading as far as 1-2mm into the thread before locking up.

Anyone got experience of tapping threads? Don't want to end up with expensive paperweights...
