Have Chain Reaction given up?

I've used Chain Reaction many times in the past with great success, but recently things seem to have gone downhill.

About 3 weeks ago, I ordered a new rear wheel, a thumbshifter and some cable stuff. Everything appeared in stock but when I heard nothing for a week or so, I had a look and one of the cable dressing kits was out of stock which was holding the whole order up.
I sent an email asking if they could chase up the out of stock part to speed up my order, but was told that was not possible and to either put up with it or cancel my order.

I kept my order and within 2 days the part in question arrived at my house and an email was sent to me stating it was now in stock.

A week and a half has now passed and the rest of my order is 'still processing' and they wont answer my emails. I have phoned them and was told they would email me back, but still nothing.

I'm really pissed off about this as although it's crap service they do offer the best price and I cant afford to go elsewhere.

grrrr I'm a tiger :x

Having had stuff from them I suspect the delay is that they have run out of huge boxes to send the small stuff in

You pays your money, you takes your choice. A business can differentiate itself on price or on service but if one is good enough there's no need to do the other. Me - I don't mind putting up with the odd delay for cheap parts, if I ever really need something in a hurry then I pay more at a shop.

Some one on pinkbike was telling me a couple weeks ago how he had had similar problems with chain reaction.

Not sure whats up, seems quite odd.

Build up a reputation, become the clear market leader, cut costs/fail to match growth with investment, profits go up and service goes down. I've no problem with this, it's the world we live in. It's only when the reality doesn't live up to expectations that I have an issue - my expectations of CRC are pretty low so that's never a problem for me!

I guess the problem is that in the last 2-3 years crc and wiggle have become the biggest stores in australia, well probably they whole south pacific they'd do more order to here than all the bike stores put together in australia in a week (factless statistic i just made up, but could be true). Now wonder they are struggling.

they are a world wide player now tis true but did you also know that the usa has been kicking up a little stink about them trashing the us lbs market and due to competition laws set in the states they are trying to stop crc from selling there as its not good for there economy typical one rule for one but not the other as the us can export what they like but if some one offers cheap imports there feathers get ruffled typical greedy fat people mentality (not implying that americans are as nearly all the ones i know arn't just on about the fat cats and there govenment)

AFAICT it's pretty much just one US mail order outlet that's been moaning :)

just spoken to a guy today. apparently there was a 'printer error' and my order wasn't picked. the guy I spoke to told me that they had already prioritised my order and i should have my stuff by the weekend. I'm happy that it's a reasonable excuse, simply because the guys on the end of the phone can give me an answer and do sound bothered that i wasnt happy.

To console myself I've gone and bought myself a nice thomson seatpost to match my stem and a tubeless strip for my new wheel.

so much for the budget build
