Has L'Eroica eased its bike rules?

But why is it so important to imitate the pros, either now or at these 'retro' events?

One slightly sad spectacle at these events is the emergence of MAMIWs (middle aged men in wool)
with dutiful period correct full pro kit and overpriced repro bikes. Nothing wrong with that per se, but some of them (maybe a minority) have an attitude of looking down on people riding scruffy bikes and old kit, which is surely not the point.

Isn't it just as fun to dig your dad's, granddad's or even great granddad's bike out of the shed
and ride that? If they had low gears available to them, why not use them?
