GT Xizang Ti?

I just picked this up, first of all: What do you think? I like it a lot more than I expected, the photos in the ad were poor at best. I think it's in quite good condition and the parts seem nice. I'm trying to figure out the age of it so that I can possibly track down decals, since the original owner decided to remove them.

Edit: Consensus is it's probably a 1992

Serial # G18137

Size 18" Xizang

Hugi hubs / Mavic 217 gold rims / IRC Mythos XC skinwall
Suntour XC Comp cranks / Shimano PD M737/ XTR rd....
WTB roller cam
Syncros seatpost + transalp saddle/ Ti stem / Onza Ti bar ends / Bontrager Ti bars / Rock Shox Mag
Ritchie Logic headset

I think it's cool, the only things I'd change are the shifters and the fork. I'd go with some XTR trigger shifters. For the fork, I'd use a Mag 21 SL/Ti, just because it's titanium. I can't help you with the year, I'm more of a Klein guy.

A well specced bike and it seems to have been kept that way through the years.

Easiest thing to give an exact year to is the forks, they're teh 1992 model MAG20's

I believe the frame is a 1992, last year of the U-Brake fitment at the back (yours using a Roller Cam style instead).

So a quick search shows the 1992's had the external cable routing the top tube like you have and 1991's have an internal routing.

So 1992 Frame and forks, lots of parts are later though.
No doubt someone can nail things down specifically with a serial number.

The rear brakes seems to be some WTB roller cam 8)

I do like a Rollercam brake :D

would have been a U-brake originallly, would it not?

My best guess was a WTB roller cam (but just because that's the only roller cam I've ever heard of) so I'm glad to hear it actually is.

This frame would have been U-brake equipped originally yes. I'd love to throw some m900 and a rigid fork on but I'm probably going to sell it (once I see it with some decals on) since I don't think it's going to serve the original purpose I had in mind.

I think I'll probably break my neck trying to race it in an OMBC or 331 event if I don't.

Thank you all for the help!! I'll post some better pictures, I promise.

Thumbies forever :)

I really like the eclectic parts combo, it looks like the bike was well cared for and thoughtfully upgraded/maintained throughout its life. I might swap the v-brakes for some M900 canti's but please keep the XT/XC-Pro thumbie combo on there, it's just plain cool.

Cheers, Ted

Coll bike! Tell me more about that Moots in the background though (Mk.2 Fournales mmmm..., I have something similar in the making)

I do like the thumbies on my Miyata, for touring and commuting. I just find that trigger shifters are far more efficient for trail riding.
