Hey,
I have picked up a 1991 GT team avalanche frame and it has a bottom bracket stuck in it. The problem is the splines on the BB are all chewed up so no way of using a tool to remove it. I've heard you can use soda to melt the aluminium shell of the BB but i thought i would ask here for any advice as i don't want to mess up this classic!

So lets get this straight, it now has a cartridge BB in with alloy cups?

No longer has the original BB with a lock ring?

Have you tried using a longer 8mm bolt and large washer to hold the BB tool into what remain of the splines? Then use a pipe wrench on the BB tool with a pipe on it for more leverage and see if it will budge. Both cups should have teeth in them one should have enough remaining to get it moving if you use this method.

Without pics my suggestion would be: Triple check which direction to rotate the cup to remove it. Then a good amount of gentle heat, get the temp of the bb shell up to just over candle wax melting temp. Let wax from candle soak down into the stuck threads. Continue with gentle heat and wax, get a brass punch (not as likely to cut through the aluminum and harm the threads as steel) and a rubber mallet. Do your best to work it around. IF it doesn't work the 1st time, repeat.
