GT STS frame build questions?

Hi guys, I just bought a GT STS DH frame from a member on here.

I have a few questions however.

Does anyone know what size of bottom bracket I should use?

Also could anyone recommend one?

I was looking at the XT and XTR ones, are the Shimano hollowtech ones for the new XT and XTR chainsets?

The front derailleur cable will come out the frame at the bottom of the seat post part of the frame. I notice shimano sell a few different types of these however. (4 different XT ones) Which would I require you think?

I will no doubt have some more questions in the future.

Cheers,
Paul.

You can measure the bracket, that will be 68 of 73MM.

The front derailleur needed is probably a topswing (Low-clamp) and bottom pull.

The topswing derailleurs are in down and toppull. The downpull versions have the cableclamp on the right side. (see picture)
The toppull on the left side.

But.. downswing:
toppull -> right
downpull -> left. (see picture)

FD-M953 (downswing - downpull):

Re-read your post, and you'll need a TOP-PULL.
Have you got a picture of the frame?

Hy,

you need a 73mm bottom bracket and a downpull front derailleur. The derailleur should be a topswing.

How I know?? I have this bike :D

Hey thanks for the replies guys.

Here is a pic of my frame

The cable will exit out the frame at pivot just above the bottom bracket.

Nice frame, will make a really nice bike :wink:

Top swing, down pull, 31.8mm

Gutted seeing it in someone else's house. I hope you put a rebuild thread up, nice to see what the full build will look like

Here's what it used to look like. :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

It's the bottom of the seattube

Oh yeah I could not remember the name of that part of the frame.

I will try and do a build thread.

Will be hard to beat your old pics. I will be sticking with V brakes (XTR/Avid), Sram and shimano drivetrain. I will have to fit my SID shocks which I know are not suited at all but I will fit these while I search and save for something like Boxxers.
