Yeah, but then at least you know what it is - bit like the flat cap on a Zaskar.

Lovely Psyclone you've got there though!

That bar just behind the seattube identifies it as an early Psyclone?

Was described as a 1999 last time it was for sale on here, see link in my above post.
Can't be that early as no groove-tube or canti stop.

I'm sure gm1230126 will be along soon enough to clear it up!

I think (hope? ) we were referring to Martins (stunning) Psyclone..

I can answer my own question now, though, since I found a pic of my '91 Karakoram which also has that bar behind the seattube ...

Thinh wich I dont like with the newer Psyclones is the horizontal piece of tube that is so short back of the seattube. Just clcik my Psyclone below and you will know what I mean. It is just missing something.. :D

Hmm, you're quite right Martin, and 1999 (if it is that new) is a bit to "modern" for me anyways..

Interesting that it was first advertised as a 19" and now a 20". Maybe the seat tube extension isn't as long on later GT's, and therefore the 20" could be a c-t measurement, not a c-c.

I think Martin is saying that on the newer Psyclone's the top tube doesn't pierce the seat-tube in the way earlier ones did, or most GT's for that matter. It was a feature of late 90's Psyclones, so gives them away:

Compare that to the seatube cluster on Martin's Psyclone:

Gotcha . . just thought that you were saying that the bar was an indication of an early Psyclone, which would have been a useful snippet to store for potential use later.. 8) (until I toddled off and tracked down a pic of my bike that showed the area.. typical  )

Thanks Drencrom but I did understand what Martin was saying. It's a shame that GT left out the "protruding" tube part in the late 90's, it does make a bit of a difference. Takes something away from the frames GT:ness.

The seller says (and the decal seems to confirm it), that the frame is made of True Temper tubing, but to my knowledge the 1998 and 1999 Psyclones were made of Reynolds 853. So, either it's a earlier (1997?) or a later (post 1999).

But Kevin will probably chime in soon and tell us more about it all.

edit: sorry Dc, thought you meant me.

That's cool :D

I know what you mean about the tubing, it's confusing me too. I went for '97 going by that and the decals (which may be a misnomer), but the yellow was an option for '98 so it would be nice to know.

I'd say this yellow one is later half of 97 production, judging by the rear dropouts and the decals. There was also change at that time from from a 28.6 to 31.8mm diameter seat tube. Thus meaning that the top tube pierces the seat tube rather than the seat tube piercing the top tube as was pointed out earlier. The 98 I'm currently working on has the same 31.8mm seat tube and rear dropouts. This one's definitely a 97 because it's True Temper Gold and the 98's were Reynolds
