GT LTS 3000 front derailleur replacement...

Has anyone tried using a bottom swing on a smaller chainring like 32T before? My current setup is 44T with a dying top swing STX FD.

With my limited knowledge, what will be a Shimano FD at 2 speed top swing that I can look out for? I currently have a spare XT M786 2x 9 groupset but it seems that the FD has no top swing version.

You'll have 'fun' there - the cable pull varies just enough between models and years to really, really piss one off when trying to sync it all up.

9spd mechs/ shifters tend to work ok with each other but then you get narrower cages which means the 8spd chain rattles at either end of the cassette. a 9spd chain solves this little issue as 9spd chains work wonderfully when in 6/7/8spd systems.

Its all madness!

Sounds like a great time to try out a 1x10 system to me. I did this with my Santa Cruz Heckler. I really like it.

1x10 sounds like an option. Thanks for your suggestion Lhatch4.

I found a Shimano Dynasys FD which is 2X10 speed. This satisfies the front 2X I need. Will it blend well into the current Mega9 system? The chain, RD, cogs are all Mega9.

Re:

Just make sure the rear derailleur is a clutch style model (I used a sram GX) and the chain is properly measured and tight. I found a cheap narrow/wide chainring and never had any trouble with dropping the chain.

Mine is a XT M770. Considered not 'clutch' style. Will try anyway. Thanks for all help.
