I just realised they are threded (doh!), not sure I can swap out my current steerer (ALu F3) for the steel version, pretty sure ive heard there are compatibility differences?

Any idea?

I think you are Ok on the steerer, though you may need to drill and tap a hole for the spring preload if you want one of those.
