I won the bike with the sweet paint and did not bid on the one with the burnt seat tube.
As for the repaint here are my thoughts. A hard core should have at least a matching hard core fork and ideally a hot head bar/stem. This one does not, it only has the hammerhead bar/stem. So, I'd have to put on the hard core fork and hot heat and get them painted to match which would be tough.
Furthermore, I've always wanted a hard core and I have a very specific color scheme in mind and Bill himself is doing the repaint, so I feel it's a valid way to go about it. After all a Grove Paintjob today is the same as a Grove paint job in 1991, and it would get original decals...
The other hard core (the $500) one is not a real hard core, in the sense a late 95 Adroit is not a real 95 Adroit, the top tube is all wrong. So, in my opinion it's not worth the trouble.
