I have no idea, I had never heard (or don't remember hearing of them) till somebody on here asked about them.
Still not really sure what it is suppose to do, looks like a piece of clear tubing to me
It mounts in the last "open" cable run before the rearmost loop of outer and attaches to the inner as well as the outer (via the little grub screw on the smaller end). When you pull more cable (lower gears) it stretches the tubing, which in turn helps pull the cable back for snappier upshift in muddy conditions or poor cable runs. Works especially well on the shimano "light action" mechs with low spring tension that never worked reliably with gripshifts extra friction.
