Gout

Ah, gout - my friend. My dad was riddled with it (toes, ankles, knees, elbows - you name it). I get the occasional (every 6 months or so) attack in either big toe or either ankle and sometimes both. It's no joke; it bloody hurts. Trashes your joints as well; it's a derivation of arthritis.

He got some relief by taking allopurinol; no good for me, I'm allergic to aspirin and NSAIDs so I take probably the oldest gout remedy in the book - Colchicine. You can only take a course of 12; two to start off with then one every 3 hours. Take any more and it's one of these old style poisons. It turns your guts inside out. Very nasty stuff indeed.

Takes the pain away though. If you're lucky

Looks like I'm relatively lucky. The pain has subsided substantially today, to the xtent where I actually managed to take the dogs for a hobble.
I may have found the cause- Nuts! I've been tucking into the missus's Brazils and Almonds the last couple of days,, so I'm now eatng lots of nuts to see if I wake up in pain again... :?

God no... another one with it's own set of pretty awesome side effects isn't it?

Know of a few GP's (mine included) that are switching to Naproxen.. the 3 pain management teams I've been under have all warned me not to take the 3 a day dose (of Diclofenac) I'm prescribed unless I have to.
And I was chatting to a woman a while back whose friend was in major trouble after her liver and stomach were both ransacked by it..

Yet to find an anti-inflammatory that helps my bone trauma and arthritis :?
