Got it for a steal

Hi all, just thought I would ask you clever people. I'm trying to identify this bike I picked up very cheap. I intend to fix it up and ride but it is very difficult to identify. It's a 10 speed with shimano rs groupset I think. Its scruffy and will be repainted soon, just want to get an idea. Thanks 😁

Without wanting to insult, this is a low-rent bike and while these sorts of bikes can be very serviceable and last years, I would say don't spend a fortune on any renovation, it just won't make economic sense and as you have just acquired it, there is no sentiment attached to make an extensive renovation worthwhile.
Economically, even with a basic clean and making it roadworthy, it's probably only going to fetch £25 max should you want to shift it on

This is quite similar to a Viscount I had about 10 years ago. It's almost impossible to identify the non-Aerospace models because there is almost no useful information about them on the net. All I can really tell you about it is there were a number of lower-end Viscounts that were not to the same spec as the Aerospace. They were lugged frames in a lower grade of steel and didn't have the Viscount-designed components that were found on the Aerospace models. They were available over here and in America from the late 70s. Some of them had the aluminium death fork which was changed to a chromed lugged steel fork. Yours has a painted steel fork.

Mine rode really well. Really well for a low-end bike.
