Goldtec Hub help, please

Hi All,

I need some help, please!

Today, I pulled apart my goldtec rear hub to investigate a little side to side play that allowed the cassette to move a little.
I initially thought something was wrong with the end-cap as it looked as if the cassette was sliding over it.

Well - I seem to have lacked a little finesse as I pulled the cassette and hub carrier off.

Unfortunately, I appear to now be missing one of the ratchet pawls.

Any idea where I can get one? Still got the spring, just the single pawl missing...

Any help appreciated!

Well,

I got a bit fed up with fruitless searches, research and phone calls...

I have no idea why, but those pawls are apparently magical pixie dust collected from unicorns.

So I went out into the garage and made one!

The lathe is unfortunately out of action, so I was left with angle grinder, drill, dremel and files.

I even "heat treated" (including a cooling dip in some oil) the pawl after I'd done.

Overall, I'm happy with the result for the time and effort I put into it

Excellent work. I was going to suggest a hope pawl as a possible alternative but no idea if they are the same size. No need now though.

I was going to suggest making one, it's quicker to make such things than looking for them, and most importantly cheaper.
What did you make it from? I would have used a bit of gauge plate, low carbon steel doesn't harden.

I actually have no idea what grade it was. I cut a couple of chunks from a piece of 10mm thick flat bar that I still had.
I had it left over from making an exhaust manifold a while back.

A lot of "precision" angle grinding later and I was able to get the dremel on it while avoiding my fingertips.

Final check and tidy up with some files, then just heated it up cherry red and dropped it into some clean engine oil.

It came out that nice black colour, so I hope that it has done the trick.

If not - well, at least I know that I've done it before now
