Going Carbon

Well, five years into my cycling comeback I have finally bought a modern bike...

With the current exchange rate this came in at about 1300 pounds, which considering it is Campag Chorus equipped I think is a great price. I was on the turbo trainer earlier, sat on my dads 1989 Raleigh 653, also Chorus equipped. This is the bike that got me back into cycling after he died 5 years ago and left it to me. I went with him to collect it from John Machin Cycles in Melton Mowbray when he bought it, and it cost 1000 pounds. Funny, all the technology in modern bikes and the inflation between 1989 and 2014 and the prices haven't changed that much (unless you go top top end!). I was thinking this whilst time was standing still and I was close to passing out on the turbo!!

Anyway, I am looking forward to how the ride compares to my steel bikes (653 Mercian, Thierry Maries 1990 Castorama Team bike, the Raleigh, plus a 1998 aluminium Giant OCR). In the last year I have done 10 mile time trials on all those bikes, so along with the feel I should have an idea how much (if anything) technology has contributed to average speed. It weighs in at 7.5kg, so surely I should take a few seconds off my times!!

Happy Christmas all.

Considering the 2014 Chorus group was retailed at around £800 this is a steal.
That was the clincher!

Planet X do a Chrous carbon bike for 1300, but the frame and finishing kit is no where near the quality of this.
