I don't want my kids walking/cycling to school in the dark, it will be dark at 10 am in winter up here if they change it.

Scotland has its own government and many laws applicable to Scotland but not England/ Wales so you could go your own way.

The winter morning things applies here too, its can be very dark if not at least twilight and for kids going home too, its dark.

i think it would be rather weird, kind of like being an eskimo
or an eclipse
nah not for me :?

but we need to sort out our clocks full stop, forward a half hour forever

Well, I think its, as usual, a more London/ South East centric thing anyway

and looking at sunrise times in Scotland, kids go to school in the dark regardless.

In northern France winter sunrise isnt until 9am on their CET.

We should stick to GMT all year round.
If shops, schools, etc wish to have a change of start/finish time then just do that themselves.
Saves all the faffing and the half yearly news features on GMT/BST.

;)

On a serious note, pros and cons really. In summer much of the UK has long enough days as it is, and not sure which I prefer out of cycling to work on a dark morning or cycling back on a dark night. Probably the latter, as coping with the school run is bad enough as it is in broad daylight. Not helped by some parents in my village driving their kids a handful of yards to the nearest bus stop to pick up the school bus.

not particularly bothered one way or t'other but would be great if it didn't change mid year - esp. the hour forward in spring - really does my head in

Cameron thinks it will give brighter and longer evenings. The reason must be so they can force people to work longer hours :?

Yes,i am cynical

I also don't see how longer nights will affect tourism, in the med it is dark by 8pm in the summer and they do fine.
Here castles etc are open till about 6 at peak times but that makes sense as peoples thoughts shift to food around then.
Yes I have been cycling and kite buggying at 10 pm in the summer but I doubt I would have the energy to do it later than that.
