Due to our governments love of interfering in foreign lands affairs I suggest not the armed forces. Sure you can be killed or injured driving a taxi but despite evidence no one is actively trying to hurt you unlike in the forces.

Government jobs that don't involve being shot at are usually good long term prospects but maybe not big earners. Emergency services like the Fire Brigade etc could be an idea.

Friend of mine is a fireman and drives a rather nice porsche....I am not sure its standard equipment though, his wife is a private health dentist, I suspect she brings home the bacon.
