GIOS compact 40th anniversary 56ctx54.5cc black

Retro Newbie
Well, like the title says basically: I have a GIOS compact 40th anniversary for sale in size 56 (that is a 56cm seat tube ct and a 54.5cm top tube cc).

In black. Yep. No GIOS blue, but these 40th anniversary frames came in black, yellow and red. Built in 1987 according to the serial number, this is the predecessor to the Compact pro, made from Columbus SLX tubing (did not check, but that was the set they used that year. Later models have other tube sets).

-Note from GIOS (e-mail from Marco Gios): my serial number indicates that this is frame number 11 from October 1987. One of the earliest compacts ever made by GIOS. Not 100% sure about the '40th anniversary' because that should officially be a 1988 frame, although frames of a certain year come out a few months earlier, so Oct 1987 could still match a 40th anniversary model. GIOS also confirms that it is SLX tubing, and that all the details are original and genuine.

Unfortunately for the true purists, it is not in its original paint scheme any more (see pics). But then again: this new paint layer is in very good condition, and it is still black ;-). Comes with a 1 inch carbon fork (not original), Shimano 600 headset, and Campag BB (chorus, square taper).

Beautiful and very original seat cluster arrangement, sliding dropouts, GIOS name all over the frame (seat cluster, BB, head tube). Complete with the hard-to-find rubber seals for the top tube cable routing.

I would like to have something like 250 GBP for it, and I will offer to ship it to the UK for that price. Because it is in Holland (just across the water) at the moment.

up...

And I will be away on holidays (and therefore not answering messages) for a week. All messages and question will be answered as soon as I am back...

Up, acompanied with the inevitable price drop to 225 pounds.

For those interested in restoring it back to its original state: There is a matching fork for sale on this forum for 70 pounds if i am correct, and the original decals are available on e-bay (i can look up the link if someone is interested)... spring project anyone? :)

Anyone know where dropouts as fitted on the bike can be purchased? Thanks
I think the only place you can get the dropouts is from Gios themselves. The only other place was http://www.defietsenmaker.nl but they sold out of these some time ago.
If you look up http://www.giostorino.it and go to the "creazioni" page, at the bottom is "accessori" (the site is all in italian). Click on that and in one of the four pictures you'll see the dropouts and brass fixing screws.
I'm guessing you'd have to contact them for a price and whether they would be prepared to ship to wherever you are as I don't think they have any Gios dealers outside of Italy.

Thanks - I have sent a note to the giostorino.it site and also asked an Italian friend to do likewise. If getting parts for my Italian espresso machine is any guide, I won't hear anything back, but a fellow Italian might :-) They don't seem to have a UK distributor these days. I also have a friend in Germany, so maybe a query to the German distributor might work. Thanks again
