Giant ATX990 Versions

Retro Newbie
Hello all,
After some info on Giant ATX990'S.

I had from new many years ago a ATX 990 Blue triangle yellow front version with from memory a rst shock running along the underneath top tube.

I also see they made another version (Red/ Yellow/ Blue) with the shock joining the downtube.

Can you tell me the intended use of both frames and the recommened travel for the front for both versions.
Any other info would be of great help (Seatpost size, Year of production etc)
Also can bushing kits still be found ?
Thanks

Hi there,

I too have tried looking at the 990 history, but not had much luck. I believe the 990 started out with the Blue Rear/Yellow Front combo, but later went to a Red/Yellow (97ish?). No idea if the only change was the colour though. There is also some pics of a polished one on this forum but don't know much about what edition that was/when it was made etc. Also, I'm sure I've seen this style in the Team colours of Yellow/Red/Blue but may be mistaken. Shockwise, I've seen some Noleens and the R/S Coupe Deluxe on the rear with R/S Judy's or the original Bombers in orange (Z1's?) up front.

After that, the design seemed to change to the one that has the shock placed just in front of the downtube in the team colours with a rear disc mount but I know even less of these.

I have the old style in Red/Yellow colours with some R/S Judy 100's so if you want any info from that, just let me know.

As for intended use, I think these were prone to snapping the rear triangle, so think only light use these days. If anyone knows the actual problem areas (if there are specifics) as it would be great to know!

Re Bushes, I believe these to be long gone. I know someone on another forum was asking the same question recently, looks like it will be a custom job unless anyone else knows?

Cheers,
