Getting retro tyres re-made

Is it me or is there a serious lack of retro tyres out there?

When they do come up they seem to sell for a ridiculous sum of money.

I'm sure I've read before thet Jeff from FFB has managed somehow to get some re-made, for about 50GBP per pair. That's practically what they sell for nos.

What are the chances we can get together, maybe with the guys over the pond and get a big hoard made of something nice? That way we can all get however many we need, freshly moulded, and for no more than the old ones go for. It may also drive the price down a little on the old one too.

I agree that retro tyres are nice, and can be the 'finishing touch' of a build. But, they are not the be all and end all of retrobiking in my opinion.

I will not pay £50 for a pair of Psychos or a Smoke Dart combo, when I can (and will) walk into my LBS and pick up a brand new pair of tyres for £30 (a nice pair of Panaracer Fire XC Pro's to be exact).

Ok, I love the Smoke Dart combo, Psycho's are great, and I would love to get my hands on some yellow Wildgrippers again, but I will not pay over the odds for them when you can get new stuff cheaper and just as good quality.

Come to think of it, I wont pay over the odds for any retro stock, but it always seems to be tyres that get the most ££££'s.

That's my point really. What about Panaracer Smoke/Dart combo's. Damn good all round set of tyres, they seem to be remaking them in black wall somewhere in the world, so why not remake them in amber wall?

In fact I reckon even if someone made a modern tyre in black with an amber wall a lot of us would be happy. No?

On my new bike, I dont mind black wall tyres, but on my retro, no. I had black walls on the RTS for a few weeks, just didnt suit it.

But, come the time when it needs some new shoes, if I cant find a realistically priced set of amber wall tyres, it will wear black wall out of principal!

Tyres are all personal choice I think. I was just using XC's as an example, I could of purchased all sorts of different tyres for my £30.

A fine example of retro madness is a set of NOS Porcs selling on here for nearly £100.

Take my advice. Buy a set of new tyres, then with the change take your Mrs out for a decent meal to keep her sweet

I liked the old Smoke and Dart combo, I also rated the Mythos but modern tyre design has come on and new tyres perform better than the old ones ever did. As much as I'd love to see the Panaracers re-made, I'd be happy with some modern tyres with amber walls to be honest. There would probably be a bigger market for them too.
