As for Jon Bonham - well, he used big drums anyway.

I always thought Phil achieved his sound by being run of the mill.

You can have the greatest technique in the world, but it don't mean a thing if does not survive the studio.

Page ensured that Bonham's sound was recorded and mixed sympathetically, the recording process was very much Page's domain.

It is the technique Page pioneered (evolved) in recording drums that wound up with Bonham being so widely sampled.

That, and John's astoundingly light to shade bombastic to impossibly subtle range.

One helluva drummer.
