Get Fit Get Extremely Retro !

Need to start getting fit for a singlespeed race at Drumlanrigg (SSUK08) so need to build up my bike. Whilst doing this I unearthed my very elderly 1950's Rudge Roadster which has been gathering dust since I got the Retrobike mtb bug. Distracted i pumped up the tyres and took it out for a spin.

Blimey its hard work, 3 gears and all too high, 46 lbs of lead pipe, barely adequate drum brakes, tiller like steering and rotten geometry plus little to no suspension. This starts me thinking, the riders of the past must have been men/women of iron to propel such behemoths without complaint.

New trainning regime for Drumlanrigg will include riding this weighty monster on every errand I need to ride that is under 5 miles until I'm superfit or dead, I fear the latter could be more likely.

Get fit, get an old policemans/post office/ butchers delivery bike. Who needs hours on the turbotrainner !

Cheers..............pant................wheese.....................

I thought post office bikes were pashleys and actually quite light?

Good luck at Drumlanrig - I love the routes up there!

A friend of mine has a similar "why do you spend so much on a light bike, why don't you ride a really heavy cheap bike to get fit" mentality...... he's not a cyclist though
