Seriously, why do so few ebay.de auctions offer paypal as a method? Is there some prohibitive cost or tax associated with it in Germany?

Only when needs must will I do a bank transfer. What's the issue with it?

there was a whole thread about this about a month or two back. I think from memory it was because direct bank transfers cost nothing in Germany so they prefer them. Makes sense I suppose. I have no problem with bank transfers. They cost me nothing (unless international when it's about £7).

My bank (First Direct) charges me £22 for international transfers (IBAN), makes things effing expensive....

Uk transfers I can do online for nowt...

BANK TRANSFERS

The problem I have with the bank transfers is this:

1. When it's an international transfer between countries I have never had one clear in less than 10 days and it usually takes 14.

2. If a guy from Germany buys something from me of eBay and I have to wait 14 days for the money to clear and another 6-10 for the to get his buy after it's shipped whose feedback is going to take a dip after it arrives 20-24 days after he supposedly pays.

That's why I require PayPal by credit card only payments from International buyers. No other choice really because all other methods add too many days until the buyer receives his goods. The banks are the crooks in this whole international bank transfer shuffle. They're holding the money and sitting on it for days making interest off it.

Who do you bank with? Lloyds just charged me £20 for a 320 Euro transfer!
Let's do a name and shame!

(Though I did just pay for an XTR M900 front mech to a Paypal-friendly German!)

MMMM a UK thing maybe

I'm with Postbank in the Netherlands and I do all transfers to countries in the euro area plus the UK for nowt.

On the one hand It's dicteted by what customers are willing to put up with beofre they vote with their feet I guess. On the other hand interest I receive on my acco8unt balance is close to nowt also, the total package may not be all that different.
