George Longstaff 753 Dura Ace Road Bike - No longer for sale

Built in 1993 for me for road racing, by the frame master himself. No chrome as this wasn’t advised (chainstay protector strip used). I won a road race in Milton Keynes on this bike in 1994 gaining my 2nd cat license.

Beautiful original condition (no respray). Red with white insert panels.

Dura Ace throughout – with the new at the time in 93 the ‘low-pro’ chainset, dual pivot brakes, down tube changing with indexing. Original Flite titanium saddle will be supplied with bike. Dura Ace seat pillar and headset. Cinelli 65 bars and aero stem. Dura Ace hubs with (expensive) Mavic Open 4 CD with ceramic brake rims. Dura ace 8-speed block and chain 13-14-15-16-17-19-21-23. Still has original gear and brake cables. Time magnesium pedals.

Size is: Seat Tube c/c 49cm ; Top tube c/c = 50cm with 10cm stem

Man that's nice, not in the market for a new bike and to small however needs acknowledgment that's a lovely machine. Always interested in how much the higher spec Reynolds tubing weighs? Cheers Jon

Thanks for the comments. I am 5' 5.5" - slightly longer upper body hence the 49/50 ratio on the frame. At the time 753 was the lightest of all Reynolds or Columbus steel tubing. I would say 20-25% lighter than 531db and much lighter than Columbus SLX which George also built for me (with Campag Chorus kit - not a patch on the Dura Ace though - George did say he would have gone for 653 rather than SLX, I was going for the all Italian thing for my 2nd bike). 653 was a bit heavier, but 753 had to silver soldered at much lower brazing temperatures and many builders wouldn't build it. It was more lively on the road than any of its steel rivals. 853 although having a higher number wasn't as good and was more inbetween 653 and 753 in reality. My 753/Dace bike weighs 9.5kg with pedals. Recently in Cycling Plus (Nov) they had a £2300, Genesis Equilibrium Reynolds 853 with Ultegra kit and it weighed 9.92kg. A Fondriest SF2 £2649 (same test) with Columbus Spirit (their top steel)with Athena was 9.39kg. Not bad for 20 years ago! Cheers. Bruce

He sadly died 11 years ago, whilst out on a sunday cycle ride - I believe he was still building then which was of course 10 years since mine was done.

That is a fantastic looking road bike , if only I weren't 6'3" I may have given it serious thought .

Lovely bike. I have a friend who is looking for a bike this size, this ones just out of the budget. Do you have any others in this size but not as expensive?
