Gears, 7 speed/8 speed compatability bodge help

Current situation with a bodge I just bought on ebay (bike was originally 8 speed but for some reason changed to 7)

Bike has 7 speed shifters (gripshift max)

7 speed rear derailleur shimano tx30

I put an 8 speed shimano cassette on.

What would be the compatability problems (apart from only having 7 gears)

Would gear change work OK?

will work ok. may not work perfectly.

i could probably get it working perfectly, but you would lose one gear/cog from the cassette (i.e cant use it)

just adjust the limiter screws either at the top or bottom end
so you dont have 1st or 8th

Thanks. Thats what I've done, losing the highest gear. Someone butchered this bike bad, even the cogs in the derailleur were the wrong size. Fortunately it was cheap and just took time and a few spare parts (£12 worth) to correct. Will restore the triggers, rear derailleur and rear wheel to an 8 speed/disc when money allows

the mech you have will be ok with 8 speed IMHO
