gear jumping

hi, why is my GT STS, jumping up a gear when i pedal, new chain and rear mech fitted, could it be frame flex.

just started after chain snapped, right chain fitted,doing my head in only 3 gears today.

ah, physically moving gears rather than the worn drivetrain jumping?

Try looking for kinks in the cables

I would hazzard a guess at rear cassette wear. If you have just changed the chain then a good idea to change the cassette too as they seem to bed into each other...alternatively possibly new mech different mech cage length? This could mean chain is currently too long maybe?...

morning all, just tried the rear wheel from my wifes new giant and still jumping,jumped on old and new mech, maybe chain length. sick as a dog,wife says buy a new bike :shock: new!!!,pah.

...is the chain the correct type for the amount of gears your running? If you start mixing up say 8 speed, and 7speed it could be causing you some problems?

yep 9 speed.

Does everything else match up (i'm guessing they do) rear mech 9 speed and shifters?

as a potential simple problem have you checked for a sticking / over stretched cable?
