Gay Paris

sacre coeur for a decent view of paris and then explore the streets behind it and find yourself a nice crepe to eat.

Cheers chaps. :D

I'll probably just sit in various caf's stuffing my fat face with pastries and coffee.

Sounds OK to me! Stay away from the tourist haunts and there are endless places in Paris to eat well on a budget.

Personally, I really enjoyed Le Pompidou. Brilliant (British designed) building.

The Centre was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, the British architect couple Richard Rogers and Su Rogers, Gianfranco Franchini, the British structural engineer Edmund Happold (who would later found Buro Happold), and Irish structural engineer Peter Rice. (Wikipedia)

Bit of a Euro-mix really :D

Good to go out of season. If the weather is good go up the Eiffel tower late afternoon - views look really good then as the colour of the buildings is particularly rich.

Not specifically Paris but in cities we don't know very well we often find a walking tour - guidebooks sometimes have them so you can guide yourself.

Some times we get a day ticket on the local transport and go on a circular tour! Trams are often fun or buses.

We have also used bikes to cycle in from the outskirts of a city - there are often cycle tracks that you can follow and you can see the backs of places and parts of a city you wouldn't normally visit. There might be those city cycles you pay and unhook and leave at another place at the end of the hire.

And I always buy a good guidebook if doing my own thing!

Cheers CAS.

We are well versed in the city guide walking holiday as we do them at least once a year in Italy.

Because we are so used to going to Venice and Florence,we are panicing about a new country!!
