Hi tensile steel is the preserve of the cheapo bike and most of you would not be found dead on one !

Has any manufacturer managed to produce a hi-ten bike that was actually quite good. A bike that either had perfect geometry or dealt with the weight issue or rode well despite its build material.

I have found older lugged frame Raleighs or a Schwinn I had that were quite reasonable.

Please no condemnation of how bad hi-ten bikes are, we all no most
of it :roll: .

I just want to know if there were any gems that succeeded despite themselves :shock:

Absolutely nothing wrong with Hi-Ten tubing - quality of build is far more important in many ways than what the old pipes are made of...

So called 'gas pipe' bikes are generally one quality step below HiTen steel tubing - BITD HiTen tubed bikes were the first bikes in a manufacturers range that rode like a bike, rather than just looking like a bike.
