Quite possibly but if you saw beyond the limitation of the shonky sets and unspecial special effects, it was genius ahead of its time. CGI nowadays detracts from a decent story line but is what sells to the non-thinking mouth breather masses.

They used to film some of it down here in an old gravel quarry,which was also used for Tenko.
