Garage-made Sobre bikes hardtail-full sus conversion

I thought I'd share this rather intriguing looking bike with everyone. It's a Sobre Bikes steel hardtail that has been turned into a 100mm full suspension frame using home-made linkages and brackets, and sporting a combination of 29" wheel up front and 26" at the rear.

Yep, agree, cool and weird at the same time. I rode it a bit, but not far enough to understand it, and given as I'm mostly a Cotic 26" kind of guy I only really noticed the big front wheel. But it's nicely executed, and the guy has a good history of classy bikes that he has lightly modified - I was there to see a Yeti ASR he's selling on which he'd added a new valve to the shock to ease maintenance.

Re:

That looks pretty neat, is there a pivot in the bottom bracket area? or does it rely on the chainstays to flex?

I don't think he has a website, he's kind of a garage tweaker rather than a pro bike modifier. He said he was inspired by the moto thing of smaller rear wheel and larger on the front.

There is a pivot just behind the bottom bracket - sorry I don't have further photos - and you can see that there's a pivot just above the rear dropouts, so it's pretty classic in that sense.

Sobre Bikes is an outfit from the Beaujolais region who make Reynolds steel frames à la Cotic, Sanderson et co. with slightly silly names like Dad and Spam - have a look here: http://www.sobre-bikes.com/accueil.html They completely disowned this 'adaptation' of one of their frames, apparently.

Re:

that pic looks so odd!!
where is that arm coming from....?!
are you a 13' feet 8" tall?!
your hand looks like it's bigger than the saddle,
the bike looks almost bmx to scale!!

interesting bike too!! :D

I like it look very tidy, I have also made up a 69er as they are called, from an on-one 456.
