Do you think they actually helped physically; or if you had better performances when using them might it have been due to a psychological thing?
Any cracking?

I don't think there were many issues with them. Of course you got the odd Friday afternoon set like any manufacturer. I had a pair briefly in the 90s but moved them on. They go for silly money now 500+
