One other thing, why the hell can't you buy Road Tax on a monthly basis?

You can, and you do!!!

Considering what it takes to make petrol I think it's pretty cheap!!!!

This stuff comes out of the backside of a cow in a field just down the road.

You don't have to drill holes at the bottom of the ocean for this do ya:

The problem with petrol/diesel is not the price it's the amount we use in these modern times. Most people (not us  ) don't stray more than a few hundred yards from their front door without using the stuff. It wasn't always that way though.

I agree, culture, habits and expectations have changed and we are way too dependant on it.

Lets face it, it's only going to get worse before it gets better.
You can put another 50 pence per litre on it; the lazy and stupid will still drive to the local shops to buy their fags.

But public transport is a national disgrace and often more expensive still.

Just look at Holland, they had the right idea decades ago. Worth a visit for any cyclist, shame they all smoke as well :-(

i have been told by an inside source that our local park and ride bus service will charge £8.40 for a family of four to travel 1 mile from out side of town. you can park in town for 5 hours for that much! how in the name of all that is broadie does that make sense! and dont get me started on the fact it is situated only a mile from the blinkin town in the first place!

I don't think petrol prices and public transport will ever change some peoples habits.

Even at £3 a litre my unemployed chav nextdoor neighbour would still drive the 1.4 mile round trip to the local shop to buy her fags in her Audi A4.

She would never consider walking it even though on foot it's only a 0.6 mile round trip.

Isn't the price of oil dropping at the moment? Fuel prices should start to drop a little in the near future.

They come out with the old 'we bought this oil 6 months ago when the price was higher' excuse. The cost of raw materials is generaly falling but won't make much impact on the retail price. If they increased the price to £10 a gallon people would still buy it and do the same mileage.
