FS - Rock Shox Mag 21s (two pairs!) PICS INSIDE

Neeek

Retro Newbie
As it says, I've got two pairs of Rock Shox Mag 21 suspension forks. One pair are good and ready for use, the other's good only for spares.

THE GOOD PAIR

They are well used, and I've had them for a long time now, but they haven't been pressed into service for the last five years or so. Based on the caps, I'd say they were last of the line 1994 vintage. I bought them secondhand when they were a couple of years old.

The steerer is 230mm long, and 1 1/8" threadless, so it'll fit up to most frames. Of course, there's no disc mount so these are for use with canti or V brakes only. The crown is an SL Ti affair - long story, but I had a pair of SL Tis as well and they died heroically, but I salvaged the crown/steerer.

Condition is good - there's a bit of paint tarnishing here and there which is common on these forks, a few chips on the lowers but most importantly they hold air… honestly! These forks actually work pretty well - they are fully functioning so you can plug them in, pump them up, and you're away.

THE BAD PAIR

These are 1993 models, and the RH outer leg has cracked at the top near the seals after the Thai baggage handlers obviously threw the bike they were attached to (these forks actually took me around Thailand in early 2004 and managed the whole trip unscathed until the flight home).

In addition, the stanchions are a bit rusty towards the crown, but seeing as they're short travel the rusty bit never gets close to the seals, so they still function. The outers and brake bridge have been re-painted (badly!) and the steerer on these ones is REALLY short at 130mm (also 1 1/8").

You may be able to re-use the crown by having another steerer pressed into it (unless you've got a titchy frame), as the crown is in very good condition.

Basically this 2nd pair may yield some spares for the other ones and it's pointless me hanging on to them. As far as I know, the internals are pretty good, so lots of spare inside too.

I was going to use the good pair for a retro build, but I haven't done anything with them, so it's better that they go to a new home.

Happy to sell both, or one pair at a time. But here's the catch - they're in Australia, as am I. So postage back to Europe might set you back 25 quid or so. However, I can pack them up as best I can to make them compact (like removing the crown/steerers) so that postage costs are minimised.

If you need to know anything more please leave a post here, PM me, or email at [email protected]. All questions answered, any pics you want of specifics I can provide.

Oh, and I'm looking for offers. Anything over 60 quid for the pair would be very nice indeed, although a good home for them is just as important so all offers considered.

Yep, although I'd rather they go together as the second pair would yield some good spares and last time I checked Mag 21 spares were rather thin on the ground!

But it'd save a bit on postage with just one pair of forks, so yes, I'd be prepared to sell the good ones on their own.
