Max insertion is about 95mm before it starts getting broader, leaving 145mm out of the frame.

(min insertion is marked at 70mm)

I'm not sure of the vintage I'm afraid, sorry!

thanks for the reply. I need to get my ruler out and do a bit of research but provisional dibs for now if that's ok? I recon this could look nice and mean on a stripped cfr with a flite up top.

No problem. A quick Google suggests they were first used by the ONCE team in 1998 on their TCRs, I might be wrong though. Mike Burrows gets a mention in the Giant Wikipedia article:

that's close enough for me in terms of date, I want to keep it as close to late 90's as possible. As long as it fits me ill have it. will ruler the bike later, when in near a ruler (always near the bike )
