Front mech shims

I gather that newer shimano front mechs are mainly 34.9mm & come with shims to take them down to the smaller sizes... Does anyone know if you can use these shims on older mechs (M953 particularly!)? & if so, does anyone have any going begging?! Been looking for a 31.8 mech for too long...

That'd be the thing... do they work with older mechs though? They seem to say specifically which mechs they're compatible with...

I've been looking for a 31.8mm XTR M953 for what seems like ages. might have found a 34.9mm version though - hence I need to know if the shims are pretty much universal or specific to the mech they came with...

You can use the shims without the plastic brackets. It can be a bit of a faff to fit them, unless you have three hands, but they work perfectly well once on.

double sided sticky tape is you best friend when fitting shims.
