Front mech re fitting

Almost ready to fit the front mech to my lava dome. Obviously to avoid marking the paintwork, I’d like to get this right first time… is there s method or is it trial and error?

Also, with my team marin, sporting thin tubing, i went a mech band size up and shimmed it.
The result was good, no crimping.

Yes, I usually run a 2mm Alen key around it for clearance!
