front mech question

Hello

Just a question to ask about front mech, as my Cannondale have 8 speed at rear and I am looking to buy a new SRAM front mech to go along with my SRAM rear mech that came with the bike, it wouldnt make any difference to have a 9 speed compatable front mech to make it work with 8 speed cassette?

9sp front mech have a narrower fork to work better with narrower 9sp chains .

but it should work ok .

It should work fine. I don't know if it's the same with SRAM mechs, but the Shimano ones have a deeper inner plate than 8spd so you need to mount them higher up the seat tube.
