Front Mech Agg

I have been trying to set up an XTR front mech on my 2000 Stumpy HT.

The cable routing is under the bb (via the little cable guide) and the mech is pulled up to the high gear & spring operated back down to the granny.

The mech requires the cable to come over the top (of itself) in order to pull it up. There is a machined guide on the mech for this

Thing is in this configuration the cable is gonna saw through the frame between the rear stays & it just does not work the mech. The cable frayed after 3 try outs on the stand...Not good.

Have I got the wrong mech? Am I missing a part? Am I just dumb?

First of all is it a dual pull mech, what model is it? From memory the stumpy uses a bottom pull front mech if you buy a specific type.
Also makes a difference to smooth operation which side of the cable clamp bolt you attach the inner cable

The cable shouldn't bite into the frame although the M2 did have a tendency to do this. I used a glueless puncture patch to protect my frame, but you can use a bit of outer where it comes under and round the frame.
