Free hub removal

Tight

I'm used to workong on heavy Agricultural plant and this would snap if I put any more pressure on! I have a 12 inch 10mm Allen key on it and it won't budge, which is strange as normally they spin off easy with the proximity of all the grease.

Could it be a non-Shimano freehub mounted on a Shimano hub?

I thought you couldn't fit an 8-sp freehub onto a 7-sp hub because it's bigger and it'll be too big for the axle, or is that just an old wives' tale?

Old wives' tale. Just lose the right width of spacer from the non-drive side and re-dish the wheel.

Done this plenty of times B4, wanting to swap a 135mm axled set of nice FIR wheels from 7spd to 8spd, but the freehub retaining stud appears to be the non-usual size of 9mm!!!!
Hard to see how it can be. The axle's 10mm - it wouldn't fit through a 9mm hole.
