frame measurements

Due to a heated discusion on another thread i would like to know.......

where do you measure a standard frame from ?

centre of BB to the centre of the top tube ?

or ...........

centre of BB to the top of the top tube ?

its a stupid poll, but its only a bit of fun, and its probobly going to prove me wrong, but hey its something to do !!!

depends on the brand, but if selling a bike on evilblagg i list both so both types of people are happy . . . . . . sitting on the fence is fun!!

measuring c-c I guess can give you a better feel for the geometry of the frame, since for example a 19" c-t in a bike with a periscope seat tube might actually really be a 16". Kona's are bad for this.

as the manufacturer intended e.g. my 18" DBRs are measured c-t as they are 17.5" c-c.

it's a shame that all the manufacturers can't all measure the same way, it would simplify things :roll:

Anyhow, it's all c**p because the most important measurement is the effective top-tube length, why they can't state that as the frame size is beyond me.....

It's pretty much standard to measure MTB's centre to top and road bikes centre to centre.

However, these days road bikes are mostly compact (sloping TT) geometry so all sorts of measurements get quoted...

In the old days many MTB's were also quoted centre to centre.

Surly are one of the odd companies who measure centre to top of top tube.

As noted above you really need to quote the three important measurements:

Seat tube c-c
Seat tube c-t
TT effective (ie horizontal from HT/TT intersection to imaginary ST/TT intersection) c-c.

I measure C to C .
if seat tube expands a lot after that I just use a smaller seat post .
