Dirt Disciple
Hello,

A friend of mine had a lucky frame find and as it wasn't his size kindly sold me it for a fiver - Hoping that someone may be able to help me identify what it is? Though I understand it isn't, the seat cluster arrangement looks like a Stan Pike but wondered what other builders adopted this style? The frame is badged Shimano - Pictures are of the seat cluster and the bottom bracket with the frame numbers - Someone may be able to help from this?? Any help would be very much appreciated as I would love to return it to what it should be,

Lots of builders used that style of seatstay fixing unfortunately. However, the numbering system is a bit unusual. It looks rather complicated. Dave R. did use his customers' initials as the first part of a number and yours might have this? Mind you, neither of my DR's have this feature.

Any idea as to where the frame originated?

Why do you select SP and DR as the possible builders?

Can you post a photo of the whole frame?

Questions, questions, always lots of questions.................................

My hunch is that the numbers on the bottom bracket may be a postcode and house number TN13 2PB 45? The format is correct. TN13 is Sevenoaks...

Have you looked elsewhere for a serial number? It's sometimes to be found on the left rear dropout, or the fork steerer.

Isn't that BB number just someone's post code and house number?

Edit: Oh boy, our posts crossed in the ether! Who'd have thought there was someone else on Retrobike at this ungodly hour?

Mark.

Frame ID

Thanks for the responses - Hadn't thought of the postcode thing which is a bit dim of me!

Full bike posted now:

No idea where it came from other than Cheddar (Somerset) recycling centre

Only thought it may be SP or DR as have seen the same seat cluster used in examples of each.

Cant see any other letters or numbers on rear dropouts or steerer

First frame I remember seeing that design were imported italian frames when I raced in the 70's , even then they were not new...

Just google images for "fastback" seat stays and I bet there will be hundreds....

"shot in" seat stays are shot into the seat tube underneath the seat bolt and are just as numerous...

Might never track down the builder :(
