Frame flex is good!

I see he's one of those really clever students who haven't grasped how brakes and gears work. Or has he just not thought of a way to engineer it with cables...

I was wondering about that. Is it fixed with a chain tensioner (stupid) or brakeless with a freewheel (also stupid)?

Thinking about it, it would be quite easy to solve the brake and gear cable problem. Simply have all the cables to the rear "half" of the bike fully enclosed and routed internally through flexible sections along with the tensioning cables. After all, there are plenty of folding bikes on the market that have a similar arangement.

On the whole though, I still think it's a daft idea, the frame would be too compromised when it's most imprortant, ie. when it's actually being ridden, for the benefit of being able to lock all the wheels and frame with a single U lock rather than using a cable in combination with a U lock.

Apart from the fact that there arent enough lamp posts to go around, I think he should be applauded for coming up with something different. Its hard to be original these days.
After all, he's a student who will eventually be looking for work. All he needs is to win some kind of award for this in order for a design/engineering team to notice him and 'BAM!' ..70 hour working weeks and minimum wage here you come.

If nothing else it would have been fun to build.

Anyone else seen the suitcase packable On-One Onbred? :
