The print below was engraved by "marten van veen heemskerk"
It is an original from the first run off the plate,C1543  Henry the eighth was still on the throne when this was printed
Heemskerk was a contemporary of michelangelo and met him in the 1520's he painted the altar pieces on several important low countries churches, this is amazing i.m.o.
It is in the style of Albecht Duhrer and very detailed, the writing is in latin and I have translated it "ceasar the first supplicates the persian emperor who hands him the staff of power"
The funn thing is that in the background there are some small canon in emplacements and the romans did not have this technology
but marten was showing the new technology of his day, anyway after five years of research and the original fifteen quid outlay it is worth a good couple of thousand pounds
(I am keeping it though)
