Forum Libel Action

People have been killed after having arguments on chat rooms. Couple of years ago on a computer games chat room the two youths had a fight and one used a brick. Doing time for man slaughter.

And endless crimes thanks to that facebook site

When not on the bike there are other out door sports to do. To get out and enjoy the countryside at a slow pace

I remember he said an ex/current?? would take action against anyone libelling him very recently so perhaps John might be the best informed?

People have been killed after having arguments on chat rooms.

Me and the missus have had threats of legal action, violence and death as a result of the forum we own (and she now runs) over the course of the last 6 years..
Nothing came of the legal action following deep belly laughs and a go on then, sue me to the threatener of said action..

And threats of being sued over allegations that we read pm's (we didn't, don't and wouldn't. . . it's an abuse of trust and really bad form/more than a bit pathetic unless it's made clear in your t's & c's that you can/do - and even then... )...

Is there a legal precedent relating to libel action being taken against people on internet forums such as this one, or similar forums?

Kind of - I'm sure most people who inhabited usenet for some years heard about it, main page about the individual, here.

Can't say as I've ever bothered searching bailii.org in case it's summarised there, but I often saw reference to it years back when usenet was more popular.
