Fork mounted canti 'up-hanger'

mmm I was under the impression you couldn't have a stem mounted hanger if you have suspension forks, coz when the legs move up and down surely the cable length would change?.

Thats why I'm about to drill a very small nasty discreet hole in my white forks brace, so I can fit one of em hanger things on em.

Please feel free to correct me oh guru's

I'm also in the realm of suspension forks and stem mounted hanger are a no-no - hence why I have the one on me pic until such times as I have either something better or some different forks ;)

elpedro . . . your choice buddy.. I'm cool with whatever (if you change your mind, just shout out and I'll nip it in the post asap)

Ian, pete I haven't tried a stem cable hanger, guess I could get a cheap one of the bay, give it a go and report back,

I have just fitted some new white bro forks and avid cantilever's to the dawes so now need a cable hanger of some form.

Wouldn't harm to try :) as long as they are not mega bucks

Surely it would load/unload the cable as the fork does its' bouncy thing though?

Can't see it being particularly good :?

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get the drill out.

I have a brace mounted hanger but no hole in the brace, Im sure that can

 easily be sorted!.

Not that drilling holes my cherished bike bits is usually my style. It could start an avalanche. I could start drilling holes in chain rings too!.

The Indy's in the pic have a threaded hole in the front of the brace and I have a pair of X-Verts that have 2 holes on the back of the brace for mounting a reflector. . both take sufficient thread of a screw to mount a hanger... you got no holes at all in your brace??

nope it's a white brothers XC pro fork, honestly didn't think about canti when I brought it.

I take from your horror it's a big no no to drill a hole in a brace...

Was just thinking of drilling part way through and then gently taping a thread.

Said brace looks pretty sturdy so I recon it would be alright.

unless I use one of thoose roller things. Ive got one which was on a rear mech Ian

I don't know about the sensibility of drilling - but I do know I wouldn't trust myself to do it

Not many options to choose from unfortunately..

Yep had the same problem. Thought I would use a stem mounted hanger but forgot about the problem with the forks compressing.

Could not find a hanger anywhere for my z1's.

After a chat with Lee (Mrlee) on here I had came up with this for now.
