Fork advice wanted

Retro Newbie
Hi,

I'm new here having come across this site while searching on google for answers, so thought I'd register and ask for some advice directly.

I've got a trusty old Orange Prestige ('92-'93) and I'm thinking about getting some suspension forks for it again but I'm not sure how much fork travel I can get away with and would really appreciate any advice on this.

I used to have a set of Mag 20s on it until the crown on them split some time ago and that setup rode just fine. I've been wondering about getting some Pace RC36s or RC35s this time around.

Thanks in advance.

one fork to suit that frame perfectly is a pace rc35 with its monster 64mm travel  and they look 8) 8) 8) as well

I do have them, but I dread to think what state they'll be in. The crown cracked some years ago and a shop in Edinburgh quoted way too high a replacement price for me at that time, so since then they've got through a house move and they're currently sitting in an outbuilding.

Might still be worth a check I guess.

well if you dont want to use them i may be interested in buying them off you to make a complete fork with my crowna nd steerer

Post them up, though MAG20's are a bit old for me I prefer the 21/10's

So lewis you just have a spare steerer with no legs lying around.

I have a '92 Prestige with Pace RC35 and they suit it well. There are a lot of RC35 about, but factor in the age of the seals and elastomers. When I overhauled mine last year I paid:

Elastomers £35
Wiper seals £22
RC7 Grease £9

So with postage as well you're looking at £70 to overhaul a set of forks. Ask whoever you buy them off the colour of the seals, they should be very dark blue, if they've gone black then they're probably shot and will let the water in and the fork will seize.
