Ford Mondeo

and another thing! Check for 'melted' plastic hubcaps:

rear brake calipers love to seize making the wheel hot and killing the wheelbearing.

Check the hand brake works, linkage often gums up with dirt

How about I transfer some money over and collect it at the thetford meet?

Good advice from LGF. We have a MKIII and whilst not exactly my dream wheels it's a good motor. There are issues with the Mondeos as with more or less any cars. If you take care you'll be fine. The only big issue so far is the turbo letting go at 90K. Otherwise been mostly wear and tear stuff and servicing via a local mechanic with Ford parts I source myself is keen.

Ideally I'd look at a facelift TDCI130 with a six speed box. Cruise control is also quite good when on a drive. Some come with self levelling rear shocks which is good when loaded up. The Ghia X has all the bells and whistles but comes with diamond cut lip on the alloys which will need a refurb by now.

You could do worse than an auto, forget flywheel problems and the mpg is not too bad, depending on your driving style the differences are not that great.

Who can really drive with a light foot all the time, it is easy to chill out and just bimble along with an auto.

:)

I love my Passat B5.5 tdi Doggy-Wagon.

Getting 47 mpg with two spaniels in the back (Jake's fat!)

And It's not a Mondeo.

Win Win as they say.

I'd have to agree.

I'm not a Ford lover..

Can only echo what others have said. I ran an ST TDCI for 4yrs and replaced the DMF (dual mass flywheel), third injector, all the brake lines, rear bushes... On top of general wear and tear. Loved the car though. Quick and easy to see 45mpg. I made the mistake of a Vauxhall Vectra VXR estate after that. Loads went wrong with it, nothing but bother! Now happy sat in my Honda Accord S type. 200bhp, lots of toys, handles well and hasn't to this day (20k + in 9months) had a problem. Wouldn't consider anything else now
