Goodbye S-Max, you were a lovely car but a dirty fat pig on anything but dry tarmac!
...
You lied about your fuel economy too.

To be fair, I think every car manufacturer exaggerates a bit* when it comes to fuel economy. Most tests are carried out on rolling roads with no air resistance, no ground resistance and in many cases the manufacturers even remove the rear seats and any excess trim inside the car (such as the parcel shelf) just to make the MPG figures look better. And that's straight from the horse's mouth as it were - I have a brother in law who works for Ford.

*a lot

Ha! I thought you were selling it then!
I just picked up a mk2 02 plate ford galaxy which I am in the process of doing a camper conversion on it £780 plus cooker ect.
yes bargains are out there :xmas-big-grin:

In a couple of months I am trading our S-Max for a Berlingo. Woohoo!

Do not buy any car fitted with the 1.6Hdi engine as i'm finding out they're fragile and expensive to maintain. They're fitted to Ford's, Citroen's, Volvo's and i'm fairly sure Peugeot's and Renaults. My 2008 Berlingo which is well maintained and has an oil and filter change every 6k miles with the correct low ash oil has recently eaten it's clutch, it's turbo and needed it's belts and timing chain replaced and this has cost the thick end of 2k! Wish i'd got a Ford Connect as they apparently drink a little more fuel but don't break down. Might be bad luck but i've heard of others with similar problems.

The HDI is PSA thing. Renault have their own engines. I'm sure it's TC on here that works for Powertrain who put me right on a few brain facts about the 1.4/ 1.6 Ford engines being peugeot based.

I must have had the only front wheel drive legacy. It was a Brighton special edition with barely 26000 miles on the clock. £600 off the side of the road. Blew its backbox off after the exhaust got bunged up.
