Hi everyone,

First up for sale is a beautiful hand decorated Bates frame. I'm not sure which Bates this was built by, but it was built in the early 1970s for Merid, wife of Yossof (used to have the male counterpart to this beauty but my uncle took it :'(). The entire frame has been hand painted and there are lovely details to the build, such as the rear brake bridge, never seen another like it. The headset is working fine, but in bad cosmetic condition. The bottom bracket is working well.

Included are matching hand painted mud guards in fair condition (except for rails, rusty). A really lovely touch. Other lovely things are the rack fitting, fork ends and painted chain guard.

52cm c-t-t seat tube
55.5 c-t-c top tube

bit of a clean and you've got a one of a kind bicycle, £155

Second up is a 700c mavic wheelset, they are some beautiful Mavic GP4 tubular rims laced to Mavic 501 hubs. The tubs hold air and the wheels are straight and true with smooth hubs. They are in great condition with some rim wear, visible in pictures. £50

Last is a double fixed hub. 40 holes. Lovely looking, running smooth, looking lovely and maybe as if it hasn't ever been built but with one problem, the flanges turn independently to each other. Could be brazed or ridden on a low gear as it is. For this reason i will let it go for bargainacious price of £7

I would prefer collection from Deptford in South East London, but i will post, wheel for £11, hub for £3 and frame for £15. Overseas i will do, but have to check prices.

It's an intriguing frame. I see what you mean by the 'hand painting', beautifully done. I wonder if it is a 'Bates' - or if a previous owner was named Bates and painted it accordingly?

There will be a Bates specialist in the Veteran Cycle Club, maybe worth while contacting them?

thanks for the info. i dont think the owner was called bates because it was built for a swedish woman called merrid, and her name is painted on the top tube. but its just which bates built it that i dont know. i will check the veteran thing out thanks
