Re:

Flying Scot examples are not rare, really.
They do however generate enormous, to my eyes, illogical interest.
I won't offer any details but I know a chap who will admit to owning over 30 examples, the entire collection of variations and editions.
It is almost as if every bike has a feature that sets it apart from the rest.
I guess it is these nuances that command the price.
It is worth what it will fetch!

1949 and original equals = Supersonic, give me gin and tonic!

Some valuable parts in the Major Taylor stem, Super Champion Osgear, makes me hope its not getting bought to strip and sell.

I think there's a bit of shill bidding going on here. A 10 feedback buyer... Even the parts, mostly rust bitten, wouldn't fetch more than a few hundred.

One for the watching!!

Even on Glasgow gumtree you are hard pushed these days to find an average Flying Scot go for under £490 odd pounds. So this may not be unreasonable . As mentioned it is worth what it sells for ;)

EDIT **** After looking at the condition again, even with the rarer parts its still quite a high price. I had only looked at the main picture without enlarging it, or looking at the others when I commented above. For that money I would expect it to be in good running order, patina or not.

Okay, so now it's at £1000... With two bidders active, one of them on 10 feedback. Even if this was a Hetchins it'd have the 'shill alert' flashing all over it.

For a banged up, rust bitten (not that) old or desirable Flying Scot...

I expect to see this on the 'relisted' carousel for a few months to come. :P
